I’m a (return) refugee from the big cities, an artist and writer. After years of living in New Orleans, New York, and South Florida, one doctorate and two kids later, I returned several years ago to a neglected family property in Central Texas. I have a new life as a ranch hand, learning as I go. I write a weekly column called Rustic Ramblings for a couple of papers: The Clifton Record and The Lone Star Iconoclast. It’s not only about the minor catastrophes of resurrecting his place, dealing with cattle and tractors, going from Cartier to Carhart. It’s about LIFE.

Genie—no one has more interesting e-mail, okay blogs, than thee. I am sharing with family, including Becky, and her blogging daughter (who does it for Jet Blue). Just great reading. Proud to be a friend of you and Zack.
Hi, nice to meet you !
Genie, I suggest that you create t-shirts with your photo and some witty logo underneath….I’d sure wear one proudly! Thanks for always making me smile. Warm regards to my fellow Guillain-Barrette, Zack!
Gene, you are a wonderful witty writer. You should have a spot in more newspapers. Great stuff. – John Butler
